ADJUTANT/PAY MASTER - JAMES PACK
James Pack is a native of Cleveland, Ohio and
enlisted in the Marine Corps on November 3,
1943. Upon graduating Recruit Training he
attended Electrician and Engineering School
where he became qualified as an Electrician (MOS
1141). He participated in combat operations
during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
Specifically, James was involved in island
hopping campaigns and saw action during battles
in Saipan, Mariana Islands, Ryukyu Islands and
Okinawa. James earned promotions to the rank of
Corporal before honorably leaving the Marine
Corps in 1946.
James's personal awards and decorations include
the Navy Presidential Unit Citation with gold
star in lieu of second award, the
Asiatic/Pacific Pacific Campaign Medal with two
stars in lieu of second and third awards, the
World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct
Medal.
Now fully retired, James enjoys traveling and
devotes time as a member of the Disabled
American Veterans (DAV) to assisting other
veterans.
James has been a long-standing and very active
member of the Marine Corps League and has held
all offices while a member of the Montford Point
Detachment in Detroit, Michigan. He served as the
Detachment's Commandant from 1991 - 1993. He has
received numerous distinguished service awards
and was recognized as the Department's "Marine
of the Year" (1988 - 1989). As a member of the
Military Order of Devil Dogs (MODD - Pound #6)
he received the "Pound Dog Robber" of the year
for 2001 and "Dog" of the year. He also received
the prestigious "Semper Fidelis Award" from the
Montford Point Marine Association in 1979.
James transferred his membership and joined the
Aubrey Gilbert Detachment on December 19, 2008
whereby he was overwhelmingly elected as its
first Paymaster and Adjutant.
