COMMANDANT - HERB BRADLEY
Herb Bradley enlisted in the Marine Corps in
February 1966. Upon graduating from Recruit
training he attended formal school where he
became qualified as an Aviation Radar Technician
(MOS 6236). His assignments included 1st and 2nd
Marine Aircraft Wings. Herb spent a tour of duty
in the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam) from
November 1967 to December 1968 with Marine
Fighter Attack Squadron-314 (VMFA-314), known
famously as the "Black Knights". VMFA-314 proved
itself to be the foremost Marine Squadron and
participated in combat operations in North and
South Vietnam, Laos and the Tonkin Gulf. Herb
left the Marine Corps in February 1970 after
honorably serving four years.
Herb's personal awards include the Republic of
Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam
Campaign Medal with '1960' device, the National
Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
His other decorations include the Combat Action
Ribbon and the Navy Unit Commendation.
During June 2008,
Herb spearheaded efforts that led to the
formation of the Marine Corps League Detachment in Carrollton.
He was elected as the detachment's first
Commandant the following month. His
outstanding efforts and firm leadership resulted
in the Detachment receiving its Official Charter
from the Marine Corps League's National
Headquarters on August 18, 2008.
Herb is known to say "not as lean, not as mean
but I really am a better Marine than I was
then". He has studied the Korean Martial
Art of Tae Kwon Do and earned his Black Belt in
1990. He resides in Carrollton, GA.
