SENIOR VICE COMMANDANT - JACK GILBERT
Lieutenant Colonel John (Jack) Gilbert, USMCR
(Retired) was born in
City/State. He attended Officer
Candidate School during the summers of 1974 and
1975. Jack was commissioned a Second Lieutenant
in the Marine Corps following his graduation
from West Georgia College in 1976 where he
earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology
with an emphasis on Criminal Justice.
Following completion of The Basic School at
Quantico, VA in June 1977, Jack attended the
Field Artillery Officer Basic Course and Cannon
Battery Officer Course at Fort Sill, OK where he
qualified as an Artillery Officer (MOS 0802). In
January 1978 he reported to Delta Battery, 2nd
Battalion, 10th Marines, 2nd Marine Division,
Camp Lejeune, NC where served until the end of
his active duty service in May 1980.
Jack continued his career and duties in the
Marine Corps Reserve. He served in all Artillery
Officer billets from June 1980 to October 1987
while assigned to Lima Battery, 4th Battalion,
14th Marines, 4th Marine Division in Bessemer,
AL. He reported to Mike Battery, 4/14,
Chattanooga, TN in October 1987 and served as
the Executive Officer until October 1988. Jack
reported back to Bessemer, AL where he served
with Headquarters Battery, 4/14 from October
1988 through the following year. Jack was
assigned as the Battery Commander for Kilo
Battery, 4/14 in Huntsville, AL from October
1989 until 1992. His unit was mobilized in
December 1990 until May 1991, as part of
Operations Desert Shield/Storm in Southwest
Asia. Jack served as the Battalion S-3 Officer
and the Executive Officer from October 1993
through the following year with 4/14 in
Bessemer, AL. During 1994 until 1996 he served
as the Assistant Fire Support Coordinator for
4/14 for HQ Battery in Dallas, TX. He was
assigned as the Battalion Commanding Officer for
4/14 in Bessemer, AL from September 1996 until
October 1998. He also was the Artillery
representative for First Marine Expeditionary
Force during Combined Exercise 'Ulchi Focus Lens
96' in South Korea. Jack was transferred to the
Individual Ready Reserve list until his
retirement in March 1999.
Jack's personal awards and decorations include
the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy/Marine
Corps Commendation Medal with Combat 'V', the
Combat Action Ribbon, the National Defense
Service Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal,
the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), the
Kuwait Liberation Medal (Emirate of Kuwait) and
the Navy/Marine Corps Sea Service Deployment
Ribbon.
Jack is married to the former Janet Davis of
Carrollton, GA. They have two Daughters and a
Son, who are married and have 4 (soon to be 5)
Grandchildren. Jack is self-employed and is an
active volunteer at the First Baptist Church and
the Soup Kitchen.
Jack is a Charter Member of the Aubrey Gilbert
Detachment and was elected its first Senior Vice
Commandant in August 2008.
